Okay, let’s just clear this up RIGHT NOW.

My skin crawls and my jaw clenches and my eyes get wild when I hear a person say “each was more blank than the next.”

Really!? REALLY?!! Don’t you mean “more blank than the last,” and that they are increasing in intensity of blank, rather than diminishing in intensity?

Because that is certainly the implication by the context of your statement. Otherwise, you would say “each was less blank than the next.” Get it?

Aagh. Don’t make me shake you, because I have a bad back and I try to maintain some semblance of politeness. Honestly though, sometimes it’s difficult.
